he’s ridiculously overrated and all the people who hail him as a literary genius need to seriously reconsider, but for comercial YA lit clearly intended to earn money and highly focused on a specific audience I’d say he does a good job for himself. his working is overwhelmingly “alright.”

ya know i used to think i was gonna kill myself too and there were a few times i got pretty close but then a thought burst into my brain which was this: if i kill myself then i will miss out on reading many important books which could potentially change my life forever. that was when i really got into reading and i found out that when I was reading the things that bothered me didn’t hurt quite so much and in fact no one could hurt me while i was reading and so i think that my love of literature is fairly equal to an alcoholic’s love of the bottle but a little less guilty.

i know that might sound silly and pointless to you, especially if you’re not a reader, but the point is this: if you kill yourself now you’re going to miss out on something important. you don’t need to die any time soon. what you need is a little help and a little love, all of which are available in great quantities from human beings everywhere, and a little bit of time to patch things up inside yourself. and you need to find the thing that makes moving forward worth it. maybe songs you haven’t heard yet or people you haven’t met yet or pups you haven’t had a chance to pet or places you haven’t visited or maybe you’re like me and it’s the books. regardless, there are plenty of things to stick around this weird little planet for.

i know it isn’t as easy as i’ve made it sound here and that it is a very long and difficult and horrible road and that being alive is the most tremendous challenge there is, but if nothing else people love you and if you kill yourself it will hurt them.

i don’t know why this little thing landed in my ask box and i probably didn’t help much, but if you ask me - and in a strange way you did - i don’t think you ought to kill yourself. you will miss too many wonderful things.
